After a number of years of prayerful consideration we felt led to work towards “our vision” using the gifts and qualifications we believe God has given us. Our vision was to provide holidays aboard a new purpose built 70' canal boat called the “Golden Cross” operating from Birmingham.

To this end we sold our home in July 2005 and commissioned the “Golden Cross” to be built.

The “Golden Cross” will be crewed by the owners Kathryn & John Hackett. Kathryn & John are Christians and have been involved in church youth work for a number of years.

John is an experienced skipper and the holder of a Maritime and Coastguard Agency class 3 inland waterways skipper's licence, and also has a certificate in Community Boat Management (CCBM) run by the National Community Boats Association (NCBA). Kathryn holds a CCC (Complete Crew Course) qualification from NCBA. Both Kathryn and John are holders of an enhanced criminal record disclosure checks, Kathryn is also a qualified nurse.

We approached Birmingham City Mission (BCM) with our vision having been involved with them previously with our links with the ‘Golden Cross Christian Centre‘ in Catshill Bromsgrove. BCM have encouraged us and have agreed to work with us as a joint project. We look forward to working with them and they have kindly offered to manage the financial side of the project.
